Scott Morgan - Your Innocent Moon 38
Scott Morgan is a Vancouver based artist and photographer.
Artist's Statement
Innocent Moon and the related work in this show at Provide are the latest of the artist's innovative photographic explorations; Morgan has in the past appropriated scientific imaging techniques as a way of probing the relationship between the material and the metaphysical—and humankind's relationship to the natural world and the cosmos has always been close to the centre of his practice. In this new body of work, he goes back to the most fundamental photographic processes, traditionally known as photograms, or as Scott refers to them as Shadow works.
The spiritual underpinnings of the artist's lifetime of daily meditation practice are woven into this new body of work, which references simplicity, silence, and stillness. Zen Buddhism frequently uses the moon as a metaphor for enlightenment, awareness, and the true nature of the mind. In Zen poetry, the moon typically represents the unconditioned mind or Buddha-nature—silent, ever-present, and perfectly luminous within us all.
