Studio Julien Peltier

Julien Peltier is a self-taught sculptor based in Montréal, Canada. His wooden sculptures are functional art, able to serve as seating, side tables, or plinths. Inspiration for his work lies in brutalism and minimalism, and is informed by Japanese woodworking techniques including shou sugi ban. Cracks, defects and organic aspects of his pieces serve to react against an excess of perfection in modern furniture, asking us to embrace the beauty found in natural occurring characteristics of wood.
