Caroline Z. Katz is a ceramic artist, photographer and painter, based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Her work across these mediums presents a unique opportunity to draw from diverse creative experiences and engage a process of expression in which she continues to find and lose herself. Caroline creates one-of-a-kind objects and forms with a minimalist and natural aesthetic. Each smoke-fired and raku stoneware piece is handmade with thoughtful attention to detail. Surrendering to these ancient durational processes allows her to create works with soft earthiness and muted tones that embody the untameable and unexpected expressions of fire.

Elements of Time
Caroline explores the elements of time and nature through the process of smoke firing, where clay and fire collaborate to create surfaces shaped by transformation and exposure.  Each piece carries the memory of touch and unpredictable natural process that shape and transform matter over time.

Each unglazed burnished piece is protected with a thin layer of beeswax and richly marked by the pattern of the smoke and flame.
