Studio Henry Wilson - Agata Bowl - Aluminium
Influenced by Eastern aesthetics, particularly those of Japanese ceremonial bowls, Agata Bowl is an exercise in the juxtaposition of processes. Specifically, it renders the qualities of refined ceramics in rough, sand cast aluminium.
Whilst the form retains the proportions and attributes of ceramic traditions – such as the fine bottom edge that effects a delicate way of meeting the table – the materiality of metal and a raw industrial manufacturing process deliver a pleasing play on the expected properties of such vessels.
Because each object is cast in small batches, slight variations will occur from one individual piece to another. Production marks may include slight pour ripples or surface pitting, which imprint every item with a unique character.
